Could a hurricane possibly hit Southern California?

Many questions have been raised due to Hurricane Sandy and the destruction it has abandoned behind. The east coast regularly doesn't quire such a " welcoming" gift, so many people who populate in Southern California have been pondering: Could we potentially come in contact with such a " welcome" gift like Hurricane Sandy? Well, in the year 1997, there was a powerful hurricane name Hurricane Linda, and was located in the eastern Pacific Coast. Hurricane Sandy was forecast to strike Southern California, though it was forecast only briefly. Although if it did hit Southern California, scientists at the California Institute of Technology have figured out that it would only be a category three tropical depression. Many scientists at Cal Tech have said that if in fact Hurricane Sandy was stronger, it could have hammered Southern California., even though it dissipated in the ocean. Still, many scientists have studied that it would be very rare maybe a once in a life time for a hurricane or a tropical depression to hit. So all in all, a hurricane could in fact hit Southern California but it would be very strange for it to happen. I chose this specific subject because if a hurricane does hit, I would some how in some way try to help my mom and dad gather supplies.
